Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, lead guitarist / vocalist / songwriter / founding member, Tory Stoffregen, toured the
United States with several successful regional acts before forming The Black Mollys. The band searched for a singer to
finish the line-up, but soon discovered that great vocalists are scarce commodities. Tory, originally The Black Mollys' lead
guitarist, took over lead vocals when the trio realized they wouldn't find anyone better suited to front their new band. His
naturally warm, but powerful, voice was just what the music needed.
When Tory eventually relocated from Kansas City
to California, he found a new home with Beverly Hills-based Vital Records. Since then, his focus has been writing The Black
Mollys first major release, Overnight Disgrace. Tory calls it "real music," because there are no gimmicks, no labels.
And it doesn't matter if you drive a Pickup Truck or have a Porsche, everyone can rock out to The Black Mollys.
Dan
Dryden - formerly of the bands Stuck Mojo and Fozzy - plays some of the most kick ass bass you are ever going to hear. And
Dan, unlike most bassists, didn't start off as a guitar player, simply "falling" into playing the bass. He's a true
rhythm man who delivers heart thumping bass lines. And Joe Walden is now the band's drummer. He combines the backbeat of John
Bonham with the zany antics and out-of-control fills of legendary Who drummer, Keith Moon. Together, Tory, Dan and Joe create
a sound that won't be mistaken as anything less than bad ass.
Over the past three years, The Black Mollys have performed
several times at Johnny Depp's exclusive Sunset Blvd club, The Viper Room - best known for the highly publicized death of
River Phoenix. They have also toured extensively around the Western half of the United States, winning fans wherever they
went. The Black Mollys opened for two dates on the David Lee Roth/Sammy Hagar 2002 summer concert tour; more recently, however,
they also opened for the Goo Goo Dolls.
When The Black Mollys performed to a sold out crowd at Club LaVela, in Panama
City, Florida - a famous MTV spring break party place and the world's largest nightclub - they were the ones to take home
trophies for Best Band and Best Lead Vocalist out of the 40 bands competing there for the Yagermeister-sponsored Battle of
the Bands. The Black Mollys were also recognized as Band of the Week during a national competition sponsored by Jim Beam.
